Your next step on the official website

Prepare here, then go to the appropriate authority.

This official route starts with Dutch guidance.

How to proceed

  1. Prepare school, diploma or civic-integration evidence and note what else the municipality requests.
  2. If proof is missing, ask which test or learning arrangements apply. Report learning barriers and keep evidence of your efforts.

After signing in or opening a further form, you may encounter Dutch text. The official link opens in a new tab. Keep this guidance beside the form.

Detailed explanation, checklist and sources

This plan helps you check the relevant Dutch social-assistance rule, collect the right documents and use your municipality’s official route.

On this page

1. Identify the social-assistance rule

Basic Dutch at reference level 1F is required. Evidence may include eight years of Dutch-language education, a civic-integration exam or another document. Without proof the municipality may require a language test. A reduction concerns insufficient effort, not merely current language level.

2. Check your personal situation

This guidance concerns Dutch general social assistance under the Participatiewet. The municipality assesses your personal situation and may use its own form or portal.

3. Collect the decisive information

Read the complete letter or application confirmation. Note the assessed period and prepare only the data needed for this social-assistance question.

4. Use the official municipal route

Collect diplomas, school statements or integration proof. Ask what is missing, demonstrably cooperate with a suitable learning plan and report circumstances affecting your ability to learn.

5. Check exceptions and changes

A notification, a new application and an objection are different steps. For a decision, always check the remedy and deadline in your own letter.

6. Keep proof and seek timely help

Keep proof of sending and receipt with your records. Seek timely help if income stops, several people count or the municipality uses different facts.

7. Assess effort and possible reduction

Government guidance describes reductions for insufficient effort of 20% in the first six months,40% in the next six and 100% after one year. A low test score alone is not enough: have the test, learning plan, effort, blameworthiness and limitations assessed. Keep attendance proof and promptly report illness or unsuitable teaching. Request a written decision; asking for explanation does not stop the objection deadline.

What can I do now in practice?

Collect diplomas, school statements or integration proof. Ask what is missing, demonstrably cooperate with a suitable learning plan and report circumstances affecting your ability to learn. Use your own municipality’s form, portal or contact channel. This website files nothing, calculates no individual entitlement and does not replace an objection to a decision.

Describe the solution you would like, such as an explanation of a deduction and repayment of the outstanding amount.

For example: which document is missing, who can provide it and what should I do first?

Record the date and its source. If unknown, note this and check promptly. This tool does not calculate or monitor deadlines.
