Why Juridisch Antwoord was created
Juridisch Antwoord grew out of a personal experience of its founder, Bart Smeets. When he faced a legal question himself, he discovered how difficult it can be to get a clear answer quickly. An initial explanation can help you organise your questions and prepare for a conversation with a lawyer.
For Bart, it was a family matter. But dismissal, problems with a landlord, a broken product or an unclear letter can also leave you with questions. What does this mean for me? Do I need to act now? And what information do I need?
Juridisch Antwoord aims to help you get started with questions like these. You can read explanations, use a calculator or checklist and ask a question in the chat. We use up-to-date information from official bodies wherever possible and explain it in everyday language. We highlight important deadlines and explain when an exception may apply.
Want to continue later? In My overview, you can save selected answers, checklists and preparations. You choose what to save and can later read it again, add to it or download it. You do not need an account to read information or ask a question.
Our information helps you prepare your next step. Sometimes you can act yourself, for example with a letter or checklist. If you need personal advice or help with proceedings, a lawyer or another qualified professional is the right person to assess your case and assist you. Juridisch Antwoord provides general information and is not a law firm.
That is why we also offer help with Dutch public authorities, such as the Tax Administration, Dienst Toeslagen, UWV, your municipality and the police. We also help you understand your rights and next steps when dealing with municipal enforcement or a special investigating officer (boa). You can search by authority or by a situation you recognise. We explain what information you need, what to look out for and when personal assistance may be useful.
Need personal assistance? You can request help from a suitable partner in the chat. After your confirmation, we review your request and consider which professional fits your question. Lawyers and other professionals can register with us. We assess their professional details and expertise. You give consent beforehand to share your request. Once a suitable partner accepts it, they receive the information you agreed to share. You do not have to select a firm yourself. You and the partner then decide whether to enter into an engagement.
Our aim is for you to understand where you stand and what your next step can be.
