Final pay after leaving a job in the Netherlands
What would you like help with?
Detailed explanation, checklist and sources
Your final pay statement should show what your employer still owes and what is deducted. Check salary, holiday allowance and unused holiday hours separately. Bonuses and compensation depend on your terms and how employment ended.
On this page
1. Compare pay with your records
Compare the statement with your contract, collective agreement (cao), payslips and leave balance. Check salary up to the end date, unpaid holiday allowance and remaining leave. Statutory holiday hours can also be paid out when employment ends. Overtime, commission, bonuses and expenses depend on your particular entitlements; they are not automatically owed to everyone.
2. Query deductions and missing amounts
For each unclear deduction, ask for its amount, calculation and basis, for example an advance or training costs. Its presence on a payslip does not prove it is valid. List discrepancies with supporting documents. If your leave record shows 24 hours but only 16 were paid, ask the employer to explain the eight-hour difference.
3. Check payment dates and respond
Accrued holiday allowance is settled with the last salary. Do not assume there is a general extra month to pay every item; check the rules and agreements for each. Transition compensation is normally payable within one month after employment ends, with a three-month court application deadline for non-payment. Request correction and payment in writing and keep your message. Seek help promptly if payment or a response does not follow.
Should I compare my entitlement with the bank payment?
Compare gross entitlements with gross amounts on the payslip first. The bank transfer is net, after deductions. A lower net figure alone does not show that the gross pay was calculated incorrectly.

Describe the solution you would like, such as an explanation of a deduction and repayment of the outstanding amount.

Request correction of your final pay statement
Explain which items are missing or unclear. Compare gross with gross and give an amount only when you can support it. This draft does not automatically claim every compensation payment.
A letter does not extend a court expiry deadline. A petition for unpaid transitievergoeding must reach the kantonrechter within three months after the contract ends. Other claims have different deadlines.
