When does UWV pay holiday allowance and how can I check the amount?
For WW and IOW, UWV normally pays holiday allowance separately in May. For WIA, WAO, WAZ and Wajong it accompanies the May benefit. Ziektewet and WAZO payments already include it. Start with your benefit type, not a general May payment calendar.

1. Identify your benefit
This concerns Dutch UWV benefits. Find the benefit name on your decision and payment statement. Ziektewet and WAZO normally do not bring a separate annual holiday allowance payment: it is included already. If maternity benefit is paid through your employer, also check your payslip; do not add another 8% to the benefit received.
2. Check the payment arrangement
WW and IOW have a separate holiday allowance statement in May, and payment is almost always on a different day from the regular benefit. WIA, WAO, WAZ and Wajong use one statement and pay both together. Check the current UWV calendar for the exact date. For these four disability benefits, UWV says banks usually need another three working days.
3. Compare gross, deductions and net
UWV describes holiday allowance as 8% of the gross benefit. This does not promise an extra 8% net in your bank account. Compare the benefit period, gross holiday allowance, payroll deductions, any set-off and net payment in Mijn UWV or the UWV app. Do not assume twelve full months if you received benefits for only part of the period.
4. Has your benefit ended?
When the benefit ends, UWV automatically pays any holiday allowance still owed within one month after the end. Employer-insolvency benefit follows a different route: outstanding employer holiday allowance is included in the final settlement only where it is owed. This is not the ordinary May payment.
5. Holiday allowance from an employer?
Employer holiday allowance is different from UWV holiday allowance. With WW, report full sv-loon including employer holiday allowance. UWV offsets it against the benefit for the month received, reflected in the following payment. With a UWV top-up, report holiday allowance separately, including your partner's; it is not offset against that top-up. Also report allowance from a former employer: UWV decides whether to offset it.
6. Prepare a specific enquiry
Keep the statement, payment reference, benefit period and difference between expected and received amounts. If there is a set-off, retrieve the separate notification too. Contact UWV about an incorrect or unexplained amount. For a disputed decision or complex set-off, use our own help request; check the appeal information in your decision and never share DigiD codes.
I receive Ziektewet but no separate holiday allowance transfer in May. Is that an error?
Not for that reason alone. Ziektewet payments already include holiday allowance. Check your statement before expecting an extra May payment. You can still ask UWV about a missing or incorrect regular payment.
