Who helps me return to work: UWV, municipality or reintegration provider?
What would you like help with?
Detailed explanation, checklist and sources
Your benefit and employment situation determine the route. UWV and municipalities can arrange support; without benefit the municipality can assess help. A provider delivers an agreed programme, not your benefit-entitlement decision.

1. Your situation
Record whether you still have an employer and which benefit you receive. During illness, employer and employee work together on returning. An employer bearing its own Ziektewet or WGA risk also has benefit and reintegration responsibilities; ask who handles your case.
2. Conditions
UWV can assist recipients of WW, ZW, WGA, WAO, WAZ, Wajong or IOW. A labour expert assesses abilities, restrictions, earnings and training; WW recipients have a work adviser. Discuss workplace adaptations, transport, an interpreter or job coach before purchase or starting.
3. Preparation
Municipalities assist with Participatiewet, IOAW, IOAZ and Bbz, and can assist Anw recipients. With neither work nor benefit, first register with UWV as a jobseeker, then ask the municipality to assess support. Help and programme content are not automatically identical for everyone.
4. Apply
Municipal options include education, work-based learning, volunteering while retaining benefit, secondment employed by the municipality/provider, and a participation placement for experience while keeping benefit. Work First combines immediate work and guidance. Ask which applies; refusing required necessary measures can affect benefit.
5. Decision
A contracted provider can offer career assessment, application training, courses and work-learning or internship placements. Agree a concrete activity and support plan. Where UWV determines this support is needed and commissions it, UWV pays reintegration activities without a personal contribution. Do not buy a private programme expecting reimbursement.
6. Next steps
Keep the plan, appointments, progress and problems. Complain first to the provider; for a UWV-commissioned provider, contact UWV if unresolved. A complaint does not replace objection against a benefit decision. A stalled employer reintegration dispute may instead call for an expert opinion.
Must I pay a reintegration provider hired by UWV?
UWV pays the reintegration activities if it has decided you need the provider. This does not mean any privately chosen programme is reimbursed.

For each event, note the date, what happened and where the evidence is kept. Example: 3 October — letter received — correspondence folder.
Describe the solution you would like, such as an explanation of a deduction and repayment of the outstanding amount.
For example: which document is missing, who can provide it and what should I do first?
Record the date and its source. If unknown, note this and check promptly. This tool does not calculate or monitor deadlines.
After your conversation
