How do I get a copy of my police report?
Check Mijn Politie using your own DigiD. After reviewing an online report, the Dutch police make the copy available there. When reporting at a station, you receive a copy or confirmation. If it is missing, ask about your existing report rather than reporting again just to obtain a copy.

1. Identify the document you need
This guidance concerns your own report to the Dutch police. A copy reproduces your report; a receipt confirms that you reported an incident. Neither is the complete criminal case file or every investigation document. Ask your insurer or other recipient which document and reference number they need. A tax return or a report made abroad uses a different route.
2. Find your online report in Mijn Politie
Open Mijn Politie through the official politie.nl website and sign in with your own DigiD. Find the report and check its status. For an online report, the police notify you after review that the copy is available in Mijn Politie. A notice that the report was received does not mean the copy is already ready. Store the document securely. Do not give this website your DigiD, sign-in code or report document. For reports of theft, damage and pickpocketing, Mijn Politie provides progress information. This does not mean every case is updated continuously. If your report is missing or its status is unclear, contact the police with the report number.
3. Ask about a report made at a station
After reporting at a station, you receive a copy or confirmation. If you lost it or only have confirmation, contact the police on 0900-8844 or your existing police contact. Have the date, location and report or registration number ready. Ask how to obtain a copy of that existing report and whether identity verification is needed. Making another report is not the solution to a missing copy alone.
4. Check the content and add missing information
Read the copy and check the incident, date and damage described. Keep the original; do not edit your copy as if the police had recorded the altered text. If you omitted information in an online report that is still being handled, select that report in Mijn Politie and submit an addition. You can also call the police. Explain factual omissions or inaccuracies; the police assess how to process your addition.
5. Keep the copy and send it yourself
The police do not automatically send your report to your insurer. Supply the requested copy yourself through the insurer's designated channel. Keep the receipt and correspondence as well. A copy does not guarantee insurance payment or a police investigation. Check any notification deadline with the recipient and tell them promptly if the copy is missing. This page promises no fixed time within which a copy of every report becomes available.
6. If the copy is unavailable or you need other records
Ask whether the report is still under review, which confirmation is available and why a copy is missing. To find out about personal data the police process about you, use the separate access-request route. For criminal case documents, discuss the appropriate file-access route with your lawyer; a privacy request does not automatically provide the whole file. Use the preparation below, chat or our own help-request route to clarify your next step. Nothing is automatically submitted to the police or insurer. If no investigation starts or an investigation stops, read the reason and the contact or next-step information in the message. Slachtofferhulp Nederland can help. A complaint about police conduct is different from seeking review of a prosecution decision.

I only have a receipt. Is that the same as a copy?
No. A receipt confirms your report was received but may not contain the report text. Ask the recipient what they require and ask the police for a copy of your existing report. A copy is not the complete criminal case file either.
