Your AOW date, employer-pension start and final working day are three different moments. They need not coincide. Check each before choosing a pension start or agreeing to stop work.

1. Separate three dates
AOW is the statutory basic pension administered by SVB. Your employer pension is handled by its provider. An age in that scheme is not automatically your AOW age or employment-contract end. Identify what each document means.
2. Check AOW age
Use our existing AOW-age help and SVB's official date-of-birth tool. SVB distinguishes confirmed ages from forecasts for later birth periods. A forecast is not a guaranteed date. The tool does not calculate pension amounts.
3. Request scheme information
Ask each provider about the default start, permitted earlier/later dates and partial retirement under your scheme. Request application deadlines and documents. No single choice window applies to every pension.
4. Compare earlier and later
Stopping earlier can reduce accrual. Drawing pension earlier spreads it over longer and may reduce monthly payments. Tax rules differ before AOW age. Request personal gross/net scenarios; do not simply compare gross pension with net salary.
5. Prepare a comparison
For each scenario list final workday, pension start, AOW start, expected income and fixed costs before/after AOW. Record uncertainties and questions about survivor pensions and allowances. Our preparation does not select products or your financially best date; seek independent advice where needed.
6. Arrange each step separately
Discuss stopping or reducing hours separately with your employer and check contract/collective agreement before committing. Apply for AOW through SVB using our existing application guidance; arrange employer pension with its provider. Keep confirmations. Our help request neither applies for pension nor ends employment.
Is my scheme’s retirement age my AOW age?
Not necessarily. Check statutory AOW age with SVB and start options with your provider. Your last working day additionally requires a separate employment agreement or legal check.
