Detailed explanation, checklist and sources

For overdue Wmo or Wlz invoices, you can often agree a payment plan with CAK. The standard starting points are at least € 10 a month and repayment within 36 months, alongside the current personal contribution. If that is unaffordable, call CAK to discuss a suitable solution.

1. Identify the CAK scheme

This page concerns Dutch Wmo and Wlz personal contributions. Gather invoices whose due dates have passed and identify the scheme on the letter. International healthcare arrangements and administrative health-insurance premiums have different options; do not apply these Wmo/Wlz limits to them.

2. Work out an affordable monthly amount

Compare the total overdue invoices with your available monthly budget. CAK specifies at least € 10 a month and full repayment within 36 months. Include the ongoing monthly contribution so the proposal does not create another arrears balance.

3. Apply to CAK for the plan

Request a plan through Mijn CAK or the official contact route for your contribution. Wmo also has an online form. Record which invoices to include, the affordable instalment and when you can start. Keep the request confirmation.

4. Call for non-standard circumstances

Always call if € 10 a month is unaffordable, 36 months is insufficient or you already have a plan. For Wlz, CAK also flags invoices dated before 1 January 2016. These situations require discussion; a local calculation is not CAK's commitment.

5. Separate current bills from a reduction request

Continue paying the current contribution alongside the agreed instalments. A payment plan does not lower the assessed contribution. If the income used no longer fits, consult the separate adjustment procedure. Challenging a decision is another action too.

6. Keep agreements and questions

Prepare an invoice record below and note the confirmed terms. A proposal is not automatically sent or accepted. Contact CAK as soon as an instalment becomes unaffordable; your municipality may help with multiple debts. Our assistance route can address a disputed decision.

What if I can afford less than € 10 a month?

Call CAK to discuss your circumstances and budget. Do not propose an unaffordable amount just because it is the standard minimum. CAK considers a suitable solution. The preparation below provides no automatic approval.
