Detailed explanation, checklist and sources

Call 112 in an emergency. Contact police even if criminality is uncertain; threats cannot use the standard online reporting form.

1. Get to safety

Call 112 in immediate danger. Move to safety if possible and do not wait for a complete file. Without urgency call 0900-8844. Do not seek out the other person for evidence or a confession.

2. Describe context

Record exact words, actions, circumstances and why you feel threatened. Not every intimidating statement is criminal; context and type of threat matter. You need not classify it legally yourself: police may advise even where a formal complaint is not possible.

3. Preserve evidence

Do not delete written or online threats. Keep original messages and screenshots with sender, date, time and context. Note witnesses, earlier incidents and physical, psychological or property harm. Distinguish observations from suspicions and gather evidence only safely.

4. Arrange an appointment

Call 0900-8844 for a station appointment: police say threats cannot be reported online. Without phone credit, use the callback contact form on the official threats page. A callback request is not an emergency call or formal report. Ask what documents to bring.

5. Check your statement

Bring identification and evidence, request explanation or an interpreter if needed and check the recorded statement. Have errors corrected and request a copy or confirmation with a number. Police assess possible steps; the prosecutor decides on prosecution.

6. Track new incidents

Discuss safety and how to supply new facts. Police may consider speaking to the threatening person or investigating; neither is guaranteed. For repeated unwanted contact also discuss stalking and keep a log. New emergency:112; an earlier report is not remote protection.

Can I report threats online?

No. Police require personal contact and an appointment through 0900-8844. In an emergency call 112. Preserve threatening messages for the meeting.

Your timeline and evidence

List events and contacts. Note where you keep the evidence; no upload is needed.

What goes in my timeline?

Record what happened, when, the response and where to find the letter, message or photo. Mark uncertain dates.

Is my evidence sent?

No. You only note where it is kept. No files are uploaded or sent automatically.

How do I save my timeline?

Your entries are not saved automatically. Choose Save and continue later to store this preparation, including your timeline, in My overview. Wait for confirmation and save new changes again. You can also download a Word file without an account.

Up to 20 events. Choose a different position for an event to change the order.

0 / 6 · Checked or collected

For each event, note the date, what happened and where the evidence is kept. Example: 3 October — letter received — correspondence folder.

Describe the solution you would like, such as an explanation of a deduction and repayment of the outstanding amount.

For example: which document is missing, who can provide it and what should I do first?

Record the date and its source. If unknown, note this and check promptly. This tool does not calculate or monitor deadlines.

After your conversation

These are your own notes. Confirm agreements with the other person; these notes do not prove their agreement.

This is your preparation, not a submitted request, objection or legally reviewed document. A tick records only your own progress. Check the procedure and deadline in the original letter.
