Detailed explanation, checklist and sources

New applications closed on 1 January 2025. Existing recipients retain payment subject to applicable conditions. Report changes to SVB within six weeks.

1. Can I make a new application?

This monthly living benefit concerns people who returned from the Netherlands to their birth country. Amount depends on country, family and other benefits. Closure of applications since 1 January 2025 did not automatically terminate existing payments.

2. Which income is deducted?

SVB offsets AOW, Anw, WIA, TW, Wajong, WAO and WAZ, potentially reducing remigration to zero. Report changes in those Dutch benefits within six weeks. A Zvw healthcare contribution may also be withheld; compare statement lines.

3. Which changes must I report?

Report within six weeks marriage, cohabitation, divorce, permanent separation, a minor child's marriage/cohabitation, birth and death. Nationality changes, moves by you/partner, family returns, changed/new Dutch pensions or benefits, detention/tbs or refusing it are relevant too.

4. What about health insurance?

Dutch-funded care may apply alongside another Dutch statutory benefit, residence in an EU/EEA/treaty country and no local work, pension or insurance. CAK assesses; SVB then withholds Zvw contribution. Without Dutch reimbursement, a country-dependent supplement may accompany remigration, but arrange local insurance yourself. Assess healthcare allowance separately.

5. What if I return to the Netherlands?

Holiday visits differ from resettling. Resettlement ends remigration benefit. A return arrangement exists up to one year after moving; afterwards SVB directs to normal admission procedures. Ask IND about your residence conditions before moving; a benefit does not automatically grant residence.

6. How do I report a change?

Use Mijn SVB with DigiD or an accepted European login where available. Only the recipient of SVB correspondence reports through this route, possibly your partner. If online fails, use the official change form. Keep submission proof, decisions and statements and ask about unclear deductions.

Can an adviser arrange a new remigration benefit in 2026?

New applications closed on 1 January 2025; paying an intermediary does not change this. Review existing rights or an old decision, but do not rely on a promised new application.
