Can I object to an SVB decision?
What would you like help with?
Detailed explanation, checklist and sources
Yes. If you disagree with a decision by the Dutch SVB, you can usually object within six weeks. Check the date in your letter, ask for an explanation if useful, and submit a complete or provisional objection in time.

1. Check the decision and procedure
This guidance concerns decisions by the Dutch Sociale Verzekeringsbank, for example on AOW, Anw or child benefit. Read the appeal instructions in your own decision. SVB suggests calling first to see whether the issue can be resolved, but a call does not replace a timely objection while the deadline continues.
2. Calculate the six-week deadline
SVB states a six-week period and the decision specifies the date by which the objection must arrive. Record the decision date, receipt date, reference and final day. If reasons or documents are still missing, submit a timely provisional objection where necessary and ask for time to supplement it.
3. Explain exactly what is wrong
For each point, identify the period, insurance status, household situation, income, payment or calculation you consider wrong. Explain which facts SVB should assess differently and what decision you seek. A service complaint is different from an objection to the substance of a decision.
4. Add details, evidence and authority
For a written objection, SVB asks for name and address, BSN or registration number, telephone number, date, contested decision, reasons, requested decision and signature. Add relevant documents and a copy of the decision. Identify a representative and include written authority for a postal objection. File online through Mijn SVB using DigiD or a recognised European login. Without access, object by letter; write ‘Bezwaarschrift’ at the envelope’s top left. Residents of Bonaire, Sint Eustatius or Saba may bypass objection and appeal directly by letter within six weeks to the Court of First Instance on Bonaire, Plasa Reina Wilhelmina (Fort Oranje), Kralendijk. Check the decision and retain proof of posting.
5. Prepare for contact and review
Keep the online confirmation or proof of posting. SVB sends written acknowledgement and normally contacts you by telephone; you may explain the objection and extra information may be requested. An objection does not automatically suspend the decision, so separately check what you must do or pay meanwhile.
6. Check the objection decision
SVB says a decision on objection usually follows within thirteen weeks and sometimes within six. Request any reimbursement of objection costs during the procedure; it is not automatic. The decision explains court appeal. A special direct-appeal option may apply in Bonaire, Sint Eustatius or Saba; check SVB's instructions.
What structure can I use for my SVB objection?
Draft: ‘I object to SVB’s decision dated [date], reference [reference]. I believe [part/period] is incorrect because [factual reason]. [Evidence] shows [fact]. I ask SVB to [specific decision].’ Add the required details and signature and check your own letter. This website sends nothing.
