Levenlanglerenkrediet is an interest-bearing DUO loan for course or tuition fees when regular student finance is unavailable. Check eligibility and apply yourself in time; it is not a maintenance grant.

1. Check the course
It covers recognised education in the Netherlands, excluding the Caribbean Netherlands: full-time mbo-bol, or full-time, part-time or dual higher education, including modules. Check RIO recognition with the institution and that you no longer qualify for regular student finance.
2. Check age and residence
Normally you start aged thirty to under fifty-seven. Under thirty, only part-time higher education or a second higher course after an hbo bachelor/wo master qualifies. Check nationality/residence with DUO. Restarting from fifty-seven is impossible; continuous enrolment may permit continuation.
3. Calculate uncovered fees
The loan covers tuition/course fees within official annual ceilings, not general living costs. Deduct payments by employers, parents or others; full reimbursement excludes credit. No combination with an allowance from another country. Check academic year and proof of actual fees.
4. Apply in time
For regular courses apply before the course starts; past months are not funded. Apply again each academic year. For modules, apply while enrolled in the module. Do not copy the backdating rules for ordinary student finance.
5. Use the appropriate procedure
Use Mijn DUO with DigiD: Mijn Producten, Levenlanglerenkrediet. Without access use the official year-specific form; modules have their own form. Short educational modules/premasters have a special procedure. DUO requires evidence above statutory fees. This preparation submits nothing.
6. Keep the decision and plan repayment
Keep the application, fee invoice, reimbursements and decision; change or stop through Mijn DUO yourself. Interest accrues and repayment starts in the calendar year after stopping. Check your own interest rules and payment notice; borrow only what is needed. Our help request assists with a follow-up question, not automatic submission.
