Do I qualify for Dutch kindgebonden budget, and must I apply?
Kindgebonden budget is monthly support from Dienst Toeslagen alongside child benefit. Children, benefit partner, annual income and assets determine eligibility. Sometimes notification is automatic; check it rather than assuming child benefit has arranged everything.

1. Check children and applicant
You have a child under 18. Normally the parent named for SVB child benefit also applies for kindgebonden budget. Exceptions exist for ages 16–17 without child benefit. Shared parenting, blended families, residence status and foreign situations need additional checks.
2. Check income and partner
There is no single income ceiling for every family. Use estimated annual assessment income, including your benefit partner’s. A single parent without a toeslagpartner may receive extra. Children’s number and ages matter; use the official trial calculation, not as a guaranteed award.
3. Check assets on 1 January
For 2026, assets on 1 January must normally not exceed €146,011 without a benefit partner, or €184,633 jointly with one. Check counted assets and exceptions, including having a partner for only part of the year. Today’s balance does not replace the reference-date value.
4. Choose automatic or own application
If you already receive healthcare, rent or childcare benefit, an eligible award may follow automatically. SVB advises applying yourself if eight weeks after birth there is no letter and you believe you qualify. Without another benefit, apply promptly; avoid duplicating an existing award.
5. Prepare and apply officially
Prepare annual incomes, family details, the child-benefit applicant and assets on 1 January. Open Mijn toeslagen, choose Kindgebonden budget and Aanvragen, check and submit. Keep confirmation. Our preparation submits nothing. Dienst Toeslagen usually writes within five weeks, not a guaranteed decision deadline.
6. Check year, decision and changes
Check the benefit year, starting date, partner and calculation. Current Dienst Toeslagen guidance allows 2025 applications until 31 December 2026 inclusive; check the separate route for another year, extensions or revision. Report changes. Is this the same as kinderbijslag?
No. SVB child benefit is quarterly; kindgebonden budget is monthly from Dienst Toeslagen and depends on factors including income and assets.
