Challenging a Dutch traffic fine
First identify the type of fine. A CJIB letter marked M follows the administrative traffic fine procedure; a criminal penalty or municipal parking tax assessment follows a different route.

1. Check the facts
Check the registration number, place, date, offence and letter code. Request available evidence and compare it with your own records. Disagreeing with the amount alone does not explain why the decision is wrong.
2. Take action
For an M fine, the first appeal goes to the public prosecutor. Follow the deadline and instructions on the letter, and keep proof of submission. Do not let waiting for a photograph cause you to miss the appeal period.
3. If the problem continues
If that appeal is rejected, read the decision's court appeal instructions, including any security payment. A lawyer is not compulsory for this procedure. Explain concrete errors and evidence; no template or adviser can guarantee cancellation.
