How do I prepare my digital estate?
What would you like help with?
Detailed explanation, checklist and sources
Record your online assets, debts and accounts and what should happen to them after your death. Discuss authority with a Dutch civil-law notary and keep access credentials separately and securely.
On this page
1. Make an inventory
List devices, email, photos, subscriptions, domains, cryptocurrency and online debts by category. Check bank statements for forgotten services. Do not put passwords in this preparation.
2. Record wishes
For each account, record whether you prefer preservation, deletion or a memorial setting. Identify files relatives may receive. A recorded wish does not guarantee the provider will implement it.
3. Check providers
Check each provider's bereavement process and available settings. Ask what evidence is required. Access to a device does not automatically authorise use of every account.
4. Arrange authority
Discuss appointing an executor and a substitute in your will. An appointee may decline. Duties depend on Dutch law and the will; distributing the estate is not automatically an ordinary executor's power.
5. Store securely
Keep access instructions and recovery information secure, separately from this download. Tell a trusted contact where instructions can be found; never share passwords, codes or cryptocurrency keys in our chat.
6. Keep updated
Review your inventory regularly and after changes. A Dutch living will concerns representation during life; a will operates after death. Ask the notary how they fit together. This preparation does not amend a will.
Does my checklist give someone account access?
No. It is preparation. Authority and access depend on your arrangements and the provider; arrange any appointment through your will and follow the relevant procedure.

Your timeline and evidence
List events and contacts. Note where you keep the evidence; no upload is needed.
What goes in my timeline?
Record what happened, when, the response and where to find the letter, message or photo. Mark uncertain dates.
Is my evidence sent?
No. You only note where it is kept. No files are uploaded or sent automatically.
How do I save my timeline?
Your entries are not saved automatically. Choose Save and continue later to store this preparation, including your timeline, in My overview. Wait for confirmation and save new changes again. You can also download a Word file without an account.
Up to 20 events. Choose a different position for an event to change the order.
0 / 6 · Checked or collected
For each event, note the date, what happened and where the evidence is kept. Example: 3 October — letter received — correspondence folder.
Describe the solution you would like, such as an explanation of a deduction and repayment of the outstanding amount.
For example: which document is missing, who can provide it and what should I do first?
Record the date and its source. If unknown, note this and check promptly. This tool does not calculate or monitor deadlines.
After your conversation
These are your own notes. Confirm agreements with the other person; these notes do not prove their agreement.
This is your preparation, not a submitted request, objection or legally reviewed document. A tick records only your own progress. Check the procedure and deadline in the original letter.
